Nastic Movements

Look at the photos. Could you tell me which group of plants they belong to?

Here you have the scientific names (Nepenthes aristolochioides, Drosera tokaiensis, Nepenthes rajah, Drosera madagascariensis), try to put the correct name to each one.

Then, explain the main trapping mechanisms.

  2. My answers are:

1 Drosera tokaiensis: It's a carnivorous plant located in Japan. Its nastic movement is the action of open and close its leaves to catch its prey, as carnivorous plants.

    2. Drosea madagascariensi: It's a carnivorous plant which is found in Africa. Its nastic movement consist in the action of open and close its leaves to catch its prey, as carnivorous plants.

3 Nepenthes aristolochides: Yolanda, I think it's wrong and you mean "Nepenthes aristolochioides". It's a tropical pitcher plant located in Sumatra. Insects fall and are introduced in a species of jar, where digestion takes place. It closes its leaves (It's nepenthes aristolochioides' nastic movement) and insects can't flee.
That plant is in danger of extinction.

4 Nepenthes rajah: It's an insectivorous pitcher plant found in Borneo, Malasia. It's nastic movement is the action of close its leaves when insects are caught in a species of jar, as nepenthes aristolochioides. It's in danger of extinction, too, but no so much as the other plant.

Happy new year 2011 and have a good time Yolanda!
