Time zones and time changes

As you probably know we live in a divided world in terms of time.
What time is it? This appears to be an easy question
but in reality it is more complicated.

You will have to look at this information provided by BBC News,
and then you will answer these questions at home, using the comments:
  • How many time zones are there in the world?
  • How many time zones are there in Spain? How many in Europe?
  • What are the circumstances of the girl in Indiana (USA)?
  • What time is it now in Antartica?
  • When and why do we change our time twice a year, moving  forward or backward our clocks by one hour?
  • What is the International Date Line?
  • How many time zones did Russia have before the country decided to reduce them to nine?
  • In the International Space Station the astronauts can see a lot of sunsets and sunrises. How many of them every day?

5.- Last Sunday in March and last Sunday in October. We've been changing our clocks forwards and backwards in the UK since 1916. It's all to do with saving the hours of daylight, and was started by a man called William Willett, a London builder, who lived in Petts Wood in Kent. William Willett first proposed the idea of British Summer Time in 1907 in a pamphlet entitled 'The Waste of Daylight'. Willett had noticed that the summer mornings light was wasted while people slept, and that the time would be better utilised in the afternoon by putting the clocks forward. After campaigning for years the British Government finally adopted the system a year after Willett's death.

6.- Is a generally north-south imaginary line on the surface of the Earth, passing through the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where the date changes as a ship or aeroplane travels east or west across it. It is roughly along 180° longitude, (opposite the Prime Meridian), but it is drawn with diversions to pass around some territories and island groups.

    7.- 10 time zones.

8.- 16 sunrises and sunsets every day.
